22/05/2026 == Info from the restaurant When contacted we are told there are a number of options on the menu which are gluten-free, but the traditional battered and fried items are not. They suggested most grilled items can be changed to accommodate a gluten-free diet. *Importantly*: They said that due to the kitchen being small they cannot guarantee a totally allergen free environment. They suggested to contact them on the phone at 0191 511 1349 to discuss details. == Summary It seems like this might be an option if you can discuss with them to ensure the levels of risk match your requirements. They were very punctual and professional when responding to our enquiry.

22/05/2026 The Harbour Inn has told us that they have gluten-free ciabatta, jacket potato and chips. But they do not guarantee any meal is without gluten due to the kitchen having other gluten dishes in it. It seems like a conversation might be needed to ascertain the exact risk of cross-contamination here, I would recommend calling to confirm before dining here. Their number is 0191 659 2034

However, they do not give any guarantee to the dishes not containing gluten. We have contacted the restaurant asking if the preparation area is suitable for celiacs but have had no response yet. So we currently believe there is a cross-contamination risk.

17/07/2026 They have told us that apart from pizzas and garlic breads, all other dishes can be adapted to gluten free. We are a little sceptical about all other dishes, so we would recommend double checking to be sure, but it seems like they should have a lot of options and were very clear in their communication with us.

Awaiting Response for Celiac Suitability The [menu](https://the-marine.co.uk/food-menu/) currently has many gluten-free options with reviews on Trip Advisor suggesting that the gluten-free fish & chips is especially notable. We have contacted the restaurant to ask about cross contamination risk before we assign a safety recommendation.

The restaurant has told us that the options on the [Menu](https://www.newcrownhotelpub.co.uk/menus) are "Non gluten containing" items not guaranteed to be gluten-free because the kitchen also handles other products. However, they have also told us that when receiving allergy ordered all the surfaces and equipment used for cooking cleaned in full. They also have separate fryers for gluten and non-gluten items. We would still recommend checking with the staff when you visit but based on their thorough measures it seems easy to recommend this as being more thorough and serious than many other pubs we have contacted.

17/07/2026 They have separate gluten-free fryers and gluten-free bread so that much of the menu can be made gluten-free. They also offer plain fish in the oven as an alternative to battered fish - which we find to be very helpful and nice!
